The Department of Periodontics at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry offers an advanced education comprehensive course of study in clinical and didactic periodontics. The program consists of a minimum 36-month course of didactic and clinical study, with a specific research component, leading toward a Specialty Certificate in Periodontology and a Master of Science in Dentistry. 

The course of study satisfies the requirements for eligibility for the American Board of Periodontology. The program carries full approval status from the ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation.

Our mission

The periodontics graduate program’s primary mission is to produce highly qualified periodontists who will provide comprehensive state-of-the-art periodontal care to their patients. 

The secondary mission is to develop young men and women who will contribute to the profession through research and service.
