Admission requirements
Required information is outlined below and must be received by the following due dates depending on the start and duration of course work.
- Application deadlines: April 1 for the Fellowships beginning July 1. October 1 for the Fellowships beginning January 2.
Now accepting applications for the October 1, 2024 deadline; Fellowship begins January 2, 2025 through June 30, 2025.

- Application fee of $75 (US dollars) paid electronically online.

- Curriculum Vitae
- Personal Statement indicating your interest in the Fellowship, experience and career goals (personal and professional)
- GPA/class ranking forwarded from the dean's office of the dental school attended
- Dental school transcripts, to include an official, detailed, course-by-course evaluation by ECE (Education Credential Evaluators) or WES (World Education Services)
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Unofficial score reports are accepted during the application phase; however, once the applicant is admitted to the program, official test scores will be required. The TOEFL school code for the VCU School of Dentistry is: 5570. Tests must be taken within two years of application date.
- TOEFL iBT test scores under 88 will not be accepted for admission.
- IELTS test score under 6.5 will not be accepted for admission.
- Current dental license of the country of residence
- Three letters of recommendation from individuals who can personally attest to your personal and professional qualities, including at least one letter from an individual who can discuss your clinical skills related to periodontics and implantology.

Upon receipt of the above requirements, notification of the completed application will be emailed to the applicant. The director, Graduate Periodontics Program and/or appointed ad hoc committee members will review completed applications and invite selected applications for an onsite or video conference interview. This Fellowship is currently designed for admission of no more than three fellows per the one-year cycle to ensure a personalized educational experience with ample one-on-one interactions to cultivate individualized learning and skill development
A fellow will receive a certificate acknowledging their successful completion of course work, which does not serve as a specialty certificate. Although completion of this Fellowship may enhance your application, it does not guarantee acceptance to a CODA-accredited D.D.S./D.M.D. or graduate program.
